A session organized by the U.S. Mission was held at the WTO Headquarters in Geneva on the topic of “Private Sector Insights on Global Rice Market Stability.” Mr. Malik Faisal Jahangir, Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), was invited to participate in the discussion. Representing Pakistan, the REAP Chairman actively contributed to the dialogue, which focused on the impact of subsidies provided by several Asian countries and the resulting challenges to fair competition and stability in the global rice market. Pakistan strongly highlighted its concerns regarding these subsidies and their adverse effects on international rice trade. The discussion marked the beginning of a broader WTO-led process on global rice market dynamics, with further deliberations and policy discussions expected in the future.
