10/07/2024: Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) held a meeting with Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Finance led by Mr. Haseeb Ali Khan, Acting Chairman along with Mr. Sameeullah Naeem, Ex-Chairman, Mr. Shahid Tawawala, Mr. Faisal Garib, Rana Faisal Shabbir and Adnan Sheikh to express their concerns regarding the newly implemented 1% advance tax on rice sector and also demanded to return sales tax refund to rice exporters. The industry will not be in a position to bear an additional financial burden on an already struggling industry, potentially hampering their competitiveness in the global market. The exporters highlighted the need for the government to reconsider this policy to support the industry's growth and sustainability, emphasizing the potential negative impacts on both small and large-scale rice exporters.
