2/25/2018

DAILY BUSINESS RECORDER (25/02/2018)

REAP TO SEND TRADE DELEGATIONS ABROAD

Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) has decided to send trade delegations to Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippine and other countries to explore export opportunities. A high level meeting of REAP managing committee members and leading rice exporters, chaired by senior vice chairman Rafique Suleman was held on Saturday at REAP house Karachi to review the situation of rice exports and discussed future plans.

Rafique Suleman briefed the meeting about recent development during the event of Gulf Food 2018 and REAP's International Buyers Award at Dubai and expressed his hope that this event will play a vital role in future for the betterment of rice export. During the meeting rice exporters informed REAP office bearers about the challenges in important rice buying countries, such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippine, Saudi Arabia and others.

REAP's managing committee has decided to send high profile delegation to Sri Lanka for the follow-up of recent REAP delegation's visit in which Sri Lankan authorities were requested for reduction of import duties on Pakistani long grain rice.

It has also decided to send a trade delegation to Indonesia, which will have meetings with BULOG, Indonesia state owned body responsible for rice procurement and concerned government ministries for the possibilities to increase the share of Pakistani rice. Further, it has also decided to send a delegation to Philippine which will have meeting with the Officials of National Food Authority (NFA) and concerned ministries for the possibilities to increase rice exports to Philippine.
