I feel pleasure to mention that Rice is the 2nd largest export commodity of Pakistan and after the privatization of Rice Export Industry this association has been formed and during a very short span of time approximately a decade the total rice exports from Pakistan which was mere US$.300 Million has now reached a milestone of US$.2.0 Billion in last fiscal year 2008-09.
This tremendous performance has been done by the stalwarts of this association, who have put their untiring efforts for making Pakistan among the world’s top five exporter of rice in the world. They have extended their infra structure and put huge investment to equip their rice mills with the latest rice technology and installed the world’s best quality rice machineries from all around the world. This is very essential to keep the rice export sector from Government intervention, as the remarkable performance done by REAP members was only possible when the Trade is free working. After the revolutionary change in rice export industry, our member organizations are involved in earning revenue for Pakistan and playing positive role in the economic development of the country definitely enhances the efficiency of exporters who in turn delivers by generating more income for the nation and by providing more job opportunity to the population. This optimum cycle is vital for the country and all credit for it goes to REAP leadership who is doing a commendable job in getting the efforts of rice business community recognized.
REAP has been constantly working for the betterment of trade and promotion of Pakistani Rice around the world. For this purpose, REAP has sent several Trade Delegations to Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Iran, Canada, West African countries, and European countries. All the above delegations have shown very good results and REAP members have got good orders for all type of Pakistani Rice and Rice Export has been increased with a tremendous ratio. It is gratifying to note that REAP is not only working for exporters but also has formed a good combination of team work with growers, millers and traders of rice.
This harmony has given very good results during last several years. I congratulate all the members of this Association for their contribution and confident that they will continue to play their significant role in the development of Pakistan’s economy.
